In the veritable minefield of Indie books and shameless self-promotion, it helps to have a guide through the world of 'book speak', or 'what an author says versus what they really mean'.
Defies categorisation = I couldn't make my mind up what genre I wanted to write in
Slow builder = I didn't know how to write a good start
Keeps you guessing = I haven't done a very good job of explaining things
Thought provoking = not much happens
Award winning = My mum gave me a gold star for it
Multi-award winning = My mum and my second grade teacher gave me gold stars
Also...
Novel = Book
Novella = Short book
Short Story = Too short to be a book
Literary fiction = A posh book
Children's Literature = A kids' book
Young Adult = Slightly older kids' book
New Adult = Still a kids' book
And finally...
Ghost writer = Someone who can't come up with their own idea for a book
Editor = Someone who likes to see their name inside a book
Translator = Someone who speaks more than one language badly
Illustrator = Someone who communicates through drawings
Cover Designer = Someone who communicates through stock photos
